Building for an All-Renewable Future: The Passive House Primary Energy Renewable Framework

January 9, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for our first meeting of 2018 as we discuss the Passive House Primary Energy Framework with Bronwyn Barry, RA, CPHD, joining us over video conference. The presentation will look look at how ‘source energy’ is generated by our current grid system and review how Passive House’s Primary Energy Renewables (PER) assessment takes a new look at how buildings should be designed to support an all-renewable energy grid. We’ll cover why this provides a more equitable and accurate assessment of renewable energy for all building types than current ‘Net Zero’ frameworks. We’ll further illustrate how this provides a more equitable assessment for dense, urban environments and on sites with less-than-optimum solar orientation. Primary Energy Renewable factors will be explained, with examples of how they apply specifically to New England’s major urban centers.
