Sited adjacent to the Western Canal, just steps from downtown Lowell, this mixed-use development will provide 27 safe and supportive rental units for those recovering from substance abuse. This new construction Passive House building leverages an urban infill site and will enhance the adjacent canal walk while providing healthy, comfortable homes. In partnership with the Lowell House, supportive programs will be located on the ground floor, along with office and community space with direct access to the exterior. A ground floor laundry facility will enliven Merrimack street and provide much needed facilities supporting not only these residents, but also those at the nearby North Canal property. As part of an historic overlay district, the building received approval from the Lowell Historic Board, with a masonry façade punctuated by bays and taller windows, reminiscent of the commercial fabric.
