April Member Meeting: Multi-Family Affordable Housing In-Progress Case-Study

April 10, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for our April member meeting for in-depth presentation on an in-progress multi-family Passive House building, presented by the projects’s CPHC’s: Paul Eldrenkamp & Mike Duclos. This presentation was rescheduled from March due to winter weather.

The first multi-family Passive House development in New Hampshire broke ground last summer and is slated to be completed in June. The developer is the Laconia Area Community Land Trust, whose mission is to “assist low and moderate income families achieve economic self-sufficiency through the development of permanently affordable housing opportunities and associated support programs.” This particular project is a 24-unit building and part of the Gilford Village Knolls development, a low-income senior living facility. Apart from the Passive House consulting team of Mike Duclos, Michael Hindle, Mike Dutra, and Paul Eldrenkamp, none of the project team members had any Passive House experience prior to this project — not the architect, the developer, the finance authority, the mechanical systems engineer, the contractor, nor any of the subcontractors. It’s been a learning experience for everyone, but the project looks to be on track to achieve certification (knock on wood). This presentation will describe the project and the experience from the CPHC’s point of view, and offer a multitude of hard-earned lessons for anyone considering participating in such a project, in any role.
